Five Things - June 16, 2026

Welcome to my blog titled ‘Five Things’ where you can expect just that - five random musings or reflections from the previous week or so. I’ll also share a quote I find meaningful as a point of focus for the week. For photos of my books, kids, pets, and miscellaneous things I find interesting, you can follow me on Instagram @tabithalord.

So here are this week’s five things, starting with the quote of the week…

  1. “We are a nation founded as a rebuke to tyranny. A nation of revolutionaries who refused sovereign reign from afar. Hear me - we're a nation that says give us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free. A nation built on our differences, guided by the belief that we're all created equal.” - Michelle Obama

  2. The Galapagos was absolutely amazing. My sister and I had a close encounter with every animal on our Galapagos bucket list, including the tortoises, Darwin’s finches, the sea lions, marine iguanas, and penguins. We got to follow a whale around the bay for hours in our Zodiak, and we snorkeled with the reef sharks. The islands were more hostile and ruggedly beautiful than I imagined and the species that inhabit them so very well-suited for their environments. It truly was like having a front row seat to evolution in action. Check out my instagram page for some amazing photos and video clips!

  3. My alter ego, Maggie Clare, wanted me to share the exciting news that Blood Ties, the 5th book in the Tactical Solutions International romantic suspense series, released on June 2nd. If the steamy stuff is your jam, you can order it HERE. It’s a bit of a tear-jerker so have a box of tissue at the ready, and it contains some heavy themes of loss and grief so do read with care. Reviews are always appreciated.

  4. My thesis was accepted! I will be heading to Gunnison next month for my final residency, which concludes with the graduation ceremony. The week will be a full one as each student will do a reading from their thesis, present a craft talk, and finish our class work. I am already feeling bittersweet about this time coming to an end. On the one hand, I’ve worked really hard, and I look forward to having this new degree. On the other hand, I’ve so enjoyed the entire experience. It’s pushed me to create a ton of content, some of which is outside my writing comfort zone, and given me the tools to teach writing at another level. I’m also going to miss my cohort terribly. They are a wonderful group of kind, supportive, talented people who I hope will be part of my expanded writing community for a very long time.

  5. It’s time to switch things up a little! Going forward, I’ll be posting this blog on the first Tuesday of the month instead of every other week. I’m playing with some new formatting ideas, but for now it will be a monthly ‘five things’ instead of bi-weekly.
