Five Things

Welcome to my blog titled ‘Five Things’ where you can expect just that - five random musings or reflections from the previous month. I’ll also share a quote I find meaningful as a point of focus. For photos of my books, kids, pets, and miscellaneous things I find interesting, you can follow me on Instagram @tabithalord.

So here are this month’s five things, starting with the quote…

  1. “The most practical kind of politics is the politics of decency.” — Theodore Roosevelt

  2. For my graduation celebration, Ray and I spent a long weekend in Cabo. It’s barely a two hour flight from here, so it made for a quick and easy getaway. My only goal was to relax and work on my latest manuscript, which I did in the mornings at the outdoor pool bar! It was a nice reset as I begin my post-graduation career planning.

  3. As I write this, I am still recovering (in a good way!) from World Con. This year, it was held at the Anaheim Convention Center, just about an hour from our home. Worldcon is the annual convention of the World Science Fiction Society, which was first held in 1939 and, after a hiatus during WWII, has been held continuously since 1946. What I love about World Cons, and what makes them different from the more pop-culture oriented Comic Cons, is that the organizers bring scientists, engineers, astronauts, writers, futurists, and artists together to talk all things sci-fi and fantasy. I attended as both a panelist and an eager participant, and I was invited to do a reading from my thesis novel. I always leave exhausted but inspired!

  4. Now that we’ve settled into our home in Pasadena, we’ve been taking advantage of all the wonderful things to do here. The Pasadena Pops plays five concerts in the summer at the LA County Arboretum, which is a fantastic outdoor venue. Ray and I have attended three shows with some new friends. We brought blankets, chairs, wine, and food, and made an evening of it. The music was great, the company even better, and we’ve already got our season tickets for next year!

  5. My alter ego, Maggie Clare, has another new book releasing on September 8th! If the steamy stuff is your jam, Imminent Threat is available for pre-order now. There will be one more book in this romantic suspense series, which I hope to have ready by December. My schedule might be a little optimistic, but now that school’s out, I think I can get it done!
